IN: The hair care trends that we’re excited about

Bespoke colour masks

Tailor made to your shade, bespoke colour masks are the perfect way to maintain your colour in between  appointments, particularly if your shade is prone to fading due to heat styling or swimming. Our colourists combine a mixture of shades with a conditioning hair mask to perfectly match your hair colour. You apply it once  a week at home and leave it in for 5-10 minutes and rinse out for freshly toned, soft supple hair.

Cocktailing products

Combining your products are a great way to get the best, unique formulations for your hair  type. We love a good product combination, one of our favourites is to  combine the Osis Grip Mousse with a few pumps of Osis Pump Up, a paste that has a little sea salt in it. This  haircare cocktail is perfect for creating texture, body and root lift.

Essential Oils in your haircare

From anti-inflammatory properties to stimulating hair growth. Essential Oils have a whole host of properties that  can be beneficial to hair and scalp health. We love wrapping our in-salon conditioning masks up in a lemongrass  infused hot towel to nourish the hair. It smells gorgeous and feels incredible. Plus the warmth of the hot towel  encourages the conditioning mask to penetrate deeper into the hair for a longer lasting, well-conditioned result.

Tape extensions

This month we are introducing tape extensions to our salon services menu. They are quick, transformative and easy to maintain. We love them for adding volume and density to fine hair types..

OUT: Everything your hair doesn’t need right now

Hair overloaded with protein

Hair is made up of a protein called keratin. Whilst products that strengthen the hair with this sound like exactly  what those with dry or damaged hair needs, too much protein has the reverse effect and can potentially make  hair brittle. If you are finding your hair is suffering from a protein overload, take a break from products that  contain protein and opt for a gently clarifying shampoo to remove excess build up. Clarifying shampoos  are designed to remove silicones, perfumes and product build up from the hair. However, when using a clarifying  shampoo it is really important to follow this with a second hydrating shampoo and conditioner to leave the hair  feeling soft and nourished.

Over towel drying curls

When wet, curls are more fragile than when dry. Friction from heavy towel drying using a regular textured towel can cause damage to curls. Try using a micro fibre towel instead and wrap hair in it to let the towel gently soak up the excess water.

Too much heat styling

High heat opens the cuticle, allowing moisture to escape from the hair within. It also causes damage to the cuticle  layer possibly leaving the hair feeling dry and brittle. Too much heat styling also encourages colour to fade and  removes that beautiful shine that comes with a professional colour.

Sleeping with wet hair

There are a few reasons this isn’t ideal:

Firstly, hair is at its weakest when wet so sleeping on it damp puts tension on the hair that could lead to  breakage.

Sleeping on wet hair can also increase the risk of scalp infections as bacteria grows in warm, damp  environments.

Finally, trying to wrestle slept on wet hair into a passable style in the mornings is so difficult! Our best advice is to  quickly dry your hair before hitting the pillow so that at least your roots are fully dry before going to sleep for the  night.
